Just after 12.15hrs a report was received at the Control Room at Police Headquarters that an armed robbery was taking place at Jyske Bank at Main Street. As a result of this report police officers were sent to the area and armed police officers were put on standby near to the location of the bank.

Further information was received that the alleged robber had left the bank without taking anything.

Police Officers were placed in strategic points and a description of the alleged robber was circulated. Within twenty minutes the alleged culprit was arrested by police in the area of Cooperage Lane. The culprit on being searched was found with a note he had handed in at the cashier earlier demanding money.

The culprit was then identified as Roderick MACDONALD dob 05/12/61 of No Fixed Place of Abode. MACDONALD was not armed at the time of his arrest. It appears that in the note that he handed to the cashier he stated that he had a gun and knife and demanded the money in the cash desk. On seeing that the money was not given to him he walked out of the bank.

MACDONALD has been charged with one count of Attempted Robbery and will be appearing in court a.m. on Wednesday 04 January 2012.
