TENDERS ARE INVITED FOR THE RE-DEVELOPMENT OF BUENA VISTA BARRACKS

The Government has today issued an Official Notice inviting tenders for the redevelopment of what once was Buena Vista Barracks. Applicants are being encouraged to submit proposals to develop the site into residential accommodation with related amenities.

One of the conditions for developing the site is that Stone Block, currently a workers' hostel, has to be retained due to its heritage and historical value. However, Government is amenable to consider alternative proposals for its use, including its conversion into a hotel. The Minister for Enterprise, Development, Technology and Transport, The Hon Joe Holliday, said, "Buena Vista is a prime site in the South-Western area of Gibraltar that commands spectacular views over the Bay and Strait of Gibraltar. It affords great potential to any developer who is interested in constructing a residential development. Government is keen to see Buena Vista developed into a project that will make full use of one of Gibraltar's most sought-after locations".
