7 Days Gibraltar Gibraltar Flag
4th September 2010

This last weekend the GRGA hosted its annual Copa and Level A competition. Clubs all around Spain and Portugal came to the competition bringing with them a very high standard of gymnastics.

On Saturday afternoon the Copa competition took place. The Gibraltar girls where not intimidated, and under the watchful eye of Jolene Gomez they shone.

In the Benjamin Copa section Emma Bosio did an amazing routine with her ball to earn her a 2nd place and in freehand a 3rd place.

In the Alevin Copa freehand section Julia Francis came 3rd with team mate Adele Victory placing 5th. Still in the Alevin section Julia Francis did a creditable ball routine to place 6th for this apparatus.

In the Infantil section Hector Justicia and Charlie Cooper did us proud. In the Hoop section Hector outshone the competition and earned himself 1st place with teammate Charlie Cooper in a very close 2nd place. Hectors winning streak continued with clubs with Charlie in 3rd place. In the Rope section Charlie placed 5th with Hector in 6th place.

The Junior Ball section saw Natalia Gomez place 2nd with Leila Marais 3rd. They then competed in the clubs section; again Natalie Gomez came 2nd with teammate Leila Marais in 4th place. Their success continued with Natalie placing 1st place with Hoop and Leila Marais taking the second place.

On the Sunday at the level A competition it was time for the Gibraltar girls to compete for their individual places and also for the Gibraltar cup. The level of competition on the day was extremely high.

The day started with Sian Holmes and Alexandra Ballantine in the Alevin Level A section. Sian Holmes did an amazing freehand routine and placed 3rd. In the Ball section Alexandra Ballantine did a beautiful ball routine that earned her 3rd place with Sian in 5th position. The final apparatus - rope - Sian placed 2nd and Alexandra 4th.

In the Infantil Freehand section Louise Gonzalez and Zoe Marais performed amazingly but only managed 4th and 5th place. With rope Louise placed 5th and with Hoop Louise placed 4th with Zoe 5th

This left the Juniors, with Gibraltar represented by Gabriella Lyden. With Ball she placed 2nd with hoop 2nd, with clubs 2nd, and with Rope 3rd. This was an amazing performance against very strong competition.

Finally Senior Nicola Bosio turned in some great performances placing first with Rope, Hoop and Ball.

Based on the solid performances by our gymnasts Gibraltar was able to win the Gibraltar Cup for their team effort. The team was made up of Sian Holmes, Alexandra Ballantine, Louise Gonzalez, Gabriella Lyden and Nicola Bosio.

Head Coach Sally Holmes stated that she was very pleased with the results, and was confident that gymnastics in Gibraltar was going from strength to strength.

Thanks to coaches, judges and the committee for all their hard work in organising a wonderful competition.
