GFSA AT CASEMATES SQUARE

The Government has been making positive noises in public. Some of the feedback received by GFSA suggests that expectations are being raised amongst anglers that the Government will announce a series of measures that are going to solve all outstanding issues. Whilst the Federation remains cautiously optimistic it is asking its members and other anglers to be aware there is as no substantive evidence that suggests that these hopes will be met. Hopes and expectations can be easily dashed by this Government as has happened all too often in the recent past. As yet it is not known exactly what they have agreed and this will not be known until the consultation paper is made public at the end of June. The Government have already stated that they cannot and will not be addressing all the concerns brought to their attention by GFSA. The Federation wishes to make it clear to all its supporters that this means that it is entirely possible that some key demands will not be met. One of these is the introduction of licensing and permits and, in particular, the control and regulation of non resident anglers having access to Gibraltar’s waters and shore line to fish. Unconfirmed reports suggest that the Government is reluctant to tackle this issue head on. The message for now is to keep putting the pressure on so that the Government is left in no doubt as to the importance of addressing all the 10 Red Lines issues in full. Nothing short of this is acceptable.

As part of its strategy to focus the attention of the Government on its demands, the Federation will be at Casemates Square on Saturday 19th June from 9.30 pm until 2.00 pm to raise awareness of its Angling for Change Campaign.

You can help show your support and solidarity for the campaign by signing the petition. If you support the campaign but have not yet had an opportunity to sign the petition that calls on the Government to address its 10 Red Line issues then this is your last chance to do so. The campaign has already collected close to 2000 signatures and it is hoping to add further to this total, so come along and show your support. For those of you that have been collecting signatures this is your final opportunity to hand your forms in.

At Casemates, members of GFSA will be distributing its campaign leaflet and displaying a selection of photographs illustrating the issues that the Federation is pushing the Government to address now.

After Saturday and before the end of June GFSA will be presenting this petition to the Chief Minister and the Leaders of all the opposition parties.
