The ladies of Pickwick's , Mandy, Sally, Carol and Anne, are well known for their second hand book sales whilst providing teas, coffees and home baking in the calm and tranquil setting of Governor's Parade. Previous recipients of their book sales have been St John's, the Gurkhas and Help for Hero's.
The ladies were joined by the Gibraltar Dragons Junior rugby club with the proceeds being divided between Research into Children's Cancer and the Dragons. Although not a charity, the Dragons are well recognised for their commitment and efforts in developing junior rugby in Gibraltar. The recent appointment of Guy Leleu, as a part time schools rugby development officer, by the GRFU, is a major step in achieving that. Guy will be bringing tag rugby to all middle school children in Gibraltar, for them to play this exciting game in a safe and structured environment. The Dragons fund raising efforts from today will go towards the GRFU funding that is supporting this new and innovative for rugby in Gibraltar.
The Dragons had a busy morning, first attending Pickwick's to help the ladies, set up, collect books and organise them in order. Then, they attended training with coaches Allan Spark and Pete Collins, to prepare for an upcoming game against a visiting UK team, before returning again to Pickwick's. The Dragons once again took up their posts, helping with books sales, book packing and generally chatting to book buyers. The event was well supported by the community and even catered for a few tourists who had wandered off the beaten track. We would like to thank everyone involved in making this event so successful.
