7 Days Gibraltar Gibraltar Flag
4th September 2010

The show was a huge success, starting from the magnificent stage depicting Hollywood and "The history of the Movies" with true to life shadow figurines that stood out on stage: Audrey Hepburn, Charlie Chaplin, Gene Kelly, Stan Laurel and Oliver Hardy, Marilyn Monroe, Liza Minnelli and even Frankenstein, designed by the talented Miguel Peña.

The show started with an incredible talented mime of Charlie Chaplin by young Simon Boland from Danza Academy, his rendition caused laughter, smiles and even tears, beautifully portrayed, this was followed by a series of young girls in appropriate black and white costumes depicting the Shirley Temples of the 1930's/40's movie scenes, again a magnificent piece choreographed by Zuleika Green and Anamaria Gomez, from Danza Academy, and later their older girls took part in the scene with Lawrence of Arabia (Majestically attired our very own Henry Sacramento) it was so effective it brought us back to the Movie in question. The show was presented by Henry Sacramento, Mark Montovio and radio and TV personality Paul Grant.

Urban Dance appeared on stage on a variety of occasions during the evening had incredible costumes and their energy and beautifully choreographed dances by Yalta Pons and Jolene Gomez were a delight to watch. The audience comments were impressive as to their dancing abilities and the amount of work put into every piece danced. "Aladdin" from one of World Disney's favourite on the History of the Movies theme was outstanding and delightful, the piece from Chicago was like watching the film again in a different environment, the costumes magnificent and the movements superb. Undoubtedly the dance that caught everyone's attention and nobody could have done it with such perfection was BOLLYWOOD, the last dance of the show and the "broche final" as they say in showbiz. This is the first time that Urban Dance participates in this show and we hope it will not be the last for they certainly brought live to a wonderful event and emotion as their dancers took to the stage for the minute of silence in "Candle in the wind"

The young 5 to 11 year old models called "The Catwalk Stars" were superb and most certainly stars within a show full of stars that shine every year, the Bosom Buddies survivors themselves, the real stars of the show, and for whom the show is organized every year. The ladies, some even now undergoing treatment, paraded to music played by Anselmo Torres band, songs from well known films. The ladies looked gorgeous beautifully attired with clothes from Heart's Boutique, hairstyles by Hairspray with Heather at the helm another survivor, and a complete new make up look exquisitely created for the occasion, by Claudia, Alison and Shirley. We cannot forget the Bosom Buddies partners who support the event every year and this year dressed as the Humphrey Bogart's from Casablanca fame! I could have watched them all night and continued to say "Play it again Sam!"

The duet by Dilip Tailor and Sonia Golt was well applauded as they danced in Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers style!

When the Godfather, Auctioneer Clive Martinez and his two bodyguards appeared on stage it was no wonder that people would be intimidated, still they managed to get a substantial amount for the cause from the sale of the designer dresses donated by local designers and the John Galliano hand bags paraded with great style and panache by our local models. The crisis does seem to have touched us now and it was hard to get people to bid but in the end they realized it was for a good cause and forked out their cash. There was a short parade of bikini's from Aimee Jay Intimates as our "Sex and the City" girls to follow.

The magical moment came when angelic girls appeared on stage with candles to request a minute of silence as a tribute to all those persons we have lost to this disease. The packed auditorium got up for that emotional minute when some cried and others seemed to hold their breath.

The show ended with the OSCARS, lots of nominations, lots of Oscars handed out to volunteers, sponsors, backstage crew and the ladies themselves the "Bosom Buddies" and their partners. "The history of the Movies" was a great success but I would rather say that "The short history of Bosom Buddies show" was an even greater one! An Oscar also went to The Minister of Culture Edwin Reyes for his support.
