A GIANT OF A HUMAN BEING SIR JOSHUA HASSAN

Thursday last week saw the presentation of what will be a series of annual Commemorative Lectures in memory of Sir Joshua Hassan, that will continue every year for five consecutive years, and will be presented by a leading figure/VIP on issues pertinent to Gibraltar leading up to the 75 anniversary of success and growth of the firm and with special celebrations with local and internationally clients attending.

The presentation was done amidst the staff from Hassan & Partners, although the venue was at the Caleta Hotel. Sir Joshua's nephew the talented and charismatic Jaime Levy started his presentation by telling us a very funny joke pertinent to his status in the family company that got everybody laughing.

The Banner on display showed a photo of Sir Joshua in 1939 as well as a current photo of the law firm´s staff depicting the 70 years of the smooth running of this internationally firm, it stood on top of the stage as the speaker took to the lectern to corroborate the 70 years working with people for people.

"I want to thank God for this day and for the 70 years of humanity, hard work and friendship. Hassan was founded on humanitarian grounds and continuous to be this way. We are a collection of people who support each other and work as a team."

James Levy QC, Senior Partner at leading law firm Hassans was proud to stress that his uncle Sir Joshua Hassan was the longest serving Chief Minister of Gibraltar and founder of the firm. He also announced the first speaker to be coming to give the lecture next year, the Hon Michael Howard QC MP.

"The selection, by the partners of Hassans of Mr Howard as our first speaker is regarded as especially appropriate given Mr Howard's credentials, like those of Sir Joshua, as both a politician and lawyer.

Hassans was founded in 1939 and is the largest law firm in Gibraltar and the first to structure itself as a modern international law firm, with separate departments, for different fields of specialisation. Hassans opened its doors to legal practitioners from varied backgrounds, providing an environment in which hard work and merit form the basis of advancement and recognition. Its aim is to give a high-quality, personal and effective service to its clients, of whatever size or nature. The firm has an international clientele, which it continues to develop. It also has links with major European and US law firms.

It is a great idea to have an annual Lecture in the memory of Sir Joshua Hassan, a man who did so much for Gibraltar; it will be a way of closing the gap and joining the younger generations with the older generations to pay tribute to THE GREAT SIR JOSHUA HASSAN who certainly deserves it!
