7 Days Gibraltar Gibraltar Flag
9th September 2010

The show appropriately started with a 60's song from the baby boomers by Chubby Checker "lets Twist again" as the contestants in jeans and SUPERNANNIE t-shirts twisted to the rhythm in a choreography that was fun and easy as the contestants ages ranged from 47 to 71 years of age.

The show was able compered by John Cortes and show organizer Sonia Golt, both relaxed and at ease as the "Super Abuelos" of the evening's entertainment.

The panel of judges was composed of prominent members of our society who have a varied interest mostly in the arts, Chairperson Richard Cartwright, Emily Olivero, Michael Vella, Carmen Gomez, Elena Scialtiel and Kevin Dobson and it was up to them to decide which of the ladies would take the title….the decision was announced at the end of the evening…

Supernannie 2009 was Lucy Tinkler - First runner up was Sonia Santos and second runner up was Maria luisa Dalli, together with the other contestants they all appeared in day wear together with their grand children and then in evening wear.

The dancers moved beautifully under the expert choreography of Yalta Pons, dance group Urban Dance, and Geraldine Canepa dancers performed an original dance with The Modern Latin Dance Group, then it was time to listen to the melodious voices of the singers starting with the talented young Tiffany Ferrary who captured her audience as soon as she stepped on stage. Later in the evening her father Andrew took the stage rendering two beautiful melodious ballads. Being a show for grand mothers the music that followed was ideal to reminisce with the Swing Kings and their selection of popular songs that were enjoyed by all.

It was indeed a pity to see half an empty auditorium after all the hard work, the show was certainly worth £10, it was sleek, had great pace and was very entertaining, very good value for money especially as part of the proceeds went to The Psychological Support Group who have received a selection of paintings for KGV Hospital and a cheque, both totaling £644.

The sponsor Kenneth Castiel appeared on stage to talk to the audience about the importance of grandparents, grandmothers in particular, his ability as an orator was greatly appreciated by those present and went down very well with an audience that was basically there to pay tribute to their grand mothers.

This show involved most of the family as grand children took to the stage to dance and model in a mini fashion show that ended with the children also singing on stage "Feliz Navidad"

As the contestants returned to the stage for the finale, to the music of "I feel like a woman," it was apparent that they had enjoyed participating in an event made especially with them in mind. Make up artist Claudia and her team had ensured that these grandmother's looked so great on stage it was difficult to tell they were the grandmothers!
