At a ceremony in the Convent, His Excellency the Governor presented Long Service and Good Conduct medals to three officers of the Gibraltar Services Police and he confirmed the promotions of seven others.

'Sitting in the front row today is a combined total of 174 years of excellent service to the GSP,' said the Governor. 'These officers have set a fine example to the more junior members of the force.'

Chief Inspector Konrad Chrzanowski, who has been seconded to the GSP from the Ministry of Defence Police in UK, was presented with his Police Long Service medal for twenty-two years of loyal and unblemished service. A First Clasp to the Colonial Long Service and Good Conduct Medal was presented to PC Michael Martinez who joined the GSP in 1984 and a Second Clasp was awarded to PC Joseph Lavagna who retires from the force this month after 30 years' service.

'I have had a very enjoyable and varied time in the GSP - although, of course, there have been a few ups and downs,' said Joseph. 'This ceremony has been a wonderful way to end my career.'

In addition to the medals, the Governor also congratulated Chief Inspector Brian Brooks, Inspector Dylan Silva, Inspector Xavier Buhagiar and Sergeants Keith Howard, Adrian Sodi, Mahesh Chelleram and Michael Gonzalez on their recent promotions.

'To be in these settings and to have the Governor recognise these promotions makes it a memorable day for us all,' said Sergeant Keith Howard.

Chief Police Officer, Superintendent Rob Allen, was keen to stress that the promotion boards had set exacting standards. 'I sat on each of the boards,' said Rob. 'And in each case, all members of the board commented on the high standard of the candidates.'

'I fell immensely proud to have participated in a GSP awards ceremony in such a magnificent setting,' added Rob.
