His Excellency, Vice Admiral Sir Adrian Johns has paid his first visit to see the officers and men and women of the Royal Gibraltar Regiment. At Devil's Tower Camp he met the CO, Lt Col John Perez, and inspected a Quarter Guard before being briefed on the Regiment's current activities and responsibilities. After moving up to Buffadero Training Centre, he presented Long Service and Good Conduct Medals to Sergeant Major Chris Ghio, Colour Sergeant Julian Valverde and Sergeant David Rawlinson and chatted to soldiers from G Company during their training on the indoor laser range and out on the 25 metre range.

Having moved inside the Rock, the Governor watched 5 Platoon as they rehearsed their procedures for Operations in Tunnels and Caves.

'I was grateful that His Excellency was able to give up sp much of his time to connect with the Regiment, to meet the soldiers and to see the variety of experience and expertise they bring to the Regiment's roles and tasks,' said Lieutenant Colonel Perez.

Back in the RG Association Club in Irish Town, the Governor had lunch with the Honorary Colonel and members of the Association. After being presented with an Association tie, he insisted that, within the Club, his title was 'Commander-in-Chief', rather than 'The Governor.'

'We really appreciate the fact that the Commander-in-Chief has come to see us so soon after his arrival,' said Salvadore Perez, the Association's Chairman.
