7 Days Gibraltar Gibraltar Flag
9th September 2010

The eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month marks the signing of the Armistice to signal the end of World War One "the War to end all Wars", on the 11th November 1918.

This Anniversary also serves to remember all those who have died in wars since WW1. This includes WW2, the Falklands War, the Gulf War, and conflicts in Bosnia, Rwanda and Kosovo.

As in previous years, the occasion will be celebrated with a short ceremony at the Lobby of Parliament House. At this location, memorials are found commemorating the names of those Gibraltarians who lost their lives in the Wars. The two-minute silence will be marked by the firing of a gun by the Royal Gibraltar Regiment at 11.00 hrs. A bugler will then sound the Last Post and wreaths will be laid.

H.W. the Mayor, Mrs Olga Zammitt JP, will be leading the ceremony. Guards of Honour will be provided by the Royal Gibraltar Regiment, the Royal British Legion Gibraltar Branch and by local War Veterans.

Associations and organisations who are interested in laying a wreath at the ceremony should contact the PA to HW the Mayor on Tel: 56883000 / Fax: 20074943 / email: mayorofgibraltar@gibtelecom.net
